Tonia St Cyr
Notes on 2006 Exhibition
Tonia St.Cyr was born in Manchester, England, but grew up in Trinidad and Tobago where she attended Holy Name Convent.
Tonia is a graduate of the prestigious Central St. Martin’s School of Art & Design in London, United Kingdom from which she gained a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree (BFA) (Hons) in 1990 and Middlesex University, London, where she completed the Diploma in Art & Design in 1987.
Tonia’s 2006 exhibition, her 18th in individual and group shows over the past decade, has further honed her unique technique in her chosen medium of paper collage. Most of the new paper was sourced in Europe.

Her early shows were held in Trinidad and Tobago, but she has also held successful shows in London, Washington and Barbados. Her most recent exhibition was held in Mannheim, Germany from August to October, 2004 (photo at left) where she was invited by Roche Diagnostic, a pharmaceutical company, to showcase her work. This complex employs some 7,000 people and the exhibition formed an integral part of a Caribbean Week coinciding with a Caribbean themed season.
Tonia’s work can be found in many collections in different parts of the world, including Azerbaijan, France, Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Barbados and Guyana. Tonia has also been commissioned by corporate clients, inter alia, Trinidad & Tobago Postal Corporation Ltd.(TT Post) to design 4 commemorative stamps for the 100th anniversary of Pan American Health Organisation’s (PAHO, United Nations) Association of Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Companies (ATTIC), Hilton Hotel, Tobago, Sandy Lane Hotel, Barbados and Prestige Holdings, Trinidad.
Tonia’s 2006 exhibition reflects not only her usual vibrant Caribbean perspective on the disappearing built landscape but a number of new themes including those developed from travel in Europe - Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Slovakia - over the past two years. Scenes of Trinidad and Tobago’s participation in Germany during World Cup are depicted. September 1,2006
