The watercolours are all signed W.M.P. and dated 1884. In my opinion they were painted by a student of Cazabon's as is clear in the figures on the right hand side of "San Antonio", the white gouache highlights in the "Pitch Lake", the palette in the "Pitch Lake" reminescent of Cazabon's early morning scenes of Port of Spain from Laventille Hill and again in the figure on the left hand side of "Maraval Valley".
The composition of all three paintings is also reminescent of Cazabon.
It is unusual to have three 19th Century watercolours of Trinidad all by the same hand; to encourage the sale as a set, there is a better price for the three paintings together.
